To your health

Popular as dogs are with their devoted owners, there are actually more cats in the U.S. than dogs – 16 million more, in fact.

And while your kitty won’t encourage you to exercise by begging to go out for a hike, research shows the sound of a cat’s purr can lower your blood pressure and reduce stress. You see cats are good for your health. They need to be rewarded by their owners. Give them a great organic cat food that will help their health and add years to their life span.

Ask for what you want

Cats seem to go on the principle that it never does any harm to ask for what you want.

Joseph Wood Krutch

I have one that takes this to heart daily. I hardly get inside the house and here goes Patches. Guess he has to tell me all about his day and to tell me to hurry up and get some food out.

Heart and soul

When you quiet your soul and open your heart, you'll find a kitten waiting to come in. So true!

What is in your Cat or Dogs food??

What is the Meat in Your Pet’s Food?

It’s important for you to know the truth about the meat in your pet’s food, whether you buy it from the supermarket or a specialty "natural" pet food store.

Protein in your pet’s food comes in various forms – meat, poultry or fish, meat or poultry meal, and meat by-products.

In the food industry, only about 50 percent of every animal can be used as food for human consumption.

The remaining parts, or "by-products" – heads, feet, bones, feathers, blood, intestines, organs, fat scraps, even unborn fetuses – are used in pet food and animal feed.

The Pet Food Institute – the trade association of pet food manufacturers – acknowledges the use of by-products in pet foods. To quote them directly:

"The growth of the pet food industry not only provided pet owners with better food for their pets, but also created profitable additional markets for American farm products and for the by-products of the meat packing, poultry, and other food industries which prepare food for human consumption."

Commonly you’ll find meat meals in pet foods, including poultry meal, by-product meals, and meat-and-bone meal. 'Meal' signifies that these ingredients are not fresh; they are "rendered".

Rendering is the process where various ingredients are emptied into a large vat and boiled for several hours. These high temperatures can damage proteins and destroy natural enzymes.

From a health standpoint, denatured proteins from high processing temperatures can lead to food allergies and intolerances and inflammatory bowel disease.

But here’s what’s so controversial: In addition to food animal scraps, rendering, by law, can include grocery store expired meat (Styrofoam wrapping intact), road kill, diseased and disabled (and dead) cattle, and even euthanized pets.

Pet food companies claim they no longer process dead dogs and cats (insiders admit they previously did), but the FDA has found pentobarbital, the most common euthanasia drug, in rendered meat-and-bone meal and animal fat.

If your pet food label states one or more named meats such as "chicken" or "lamb", they are not by-products. However, they are still mostly leftover scraps and bones. "Chicken" consists of backs, spines and ribs, with minimal meat left on the bones. And yes, bones can count as protein!

Unless the label on your pet’s food states that the food is "safe for human consumption", you can bet the protein source is less-than-optimal.

The Two Kittens

It is wonderful to see how the two kittens are learning and fitting into the houssehold. Now that Little Bit is here Maya has someone her own age to play with leaving the adult cats alone. They play and romp around the house and do not get into too much trouble. Having trained Maya first Little Bit takes her cue from her sister. I am proud of myself at how well I did train Maya. It is best to start kittens early so they know what their boundries are. Then there will be little to worry about. You can always set items on the edge of shelves. These items will fall making a slight noise causing the kitten to jump. They may try climbing on shelves a couple time. When things keep falling sooner or later they will get the idea and leave your stuff alone. This is what I've done, knock on wood, it appears to be working.

It is difficult to tell these kids apart from a distance, because they look so much alike, twins in fur form.

Kitten Story Continues

Now that one of Maya's sisters is living inside they play together and are happy. Little Bit comes out from under the bed. The fact Maya is around is helping her come around.
Watching them racing around playing makes me laugh. Kittens at play! There will be even more fun in store for me and the adult cats when I am able to bring the last sister in, Coco. Then I'll have to pull my feet in and look out. :)
Maya and Little Bit look so much alike when I look directly at them it is difficult to tell them apart. Twins in fur form, but they are so cute.

A Friend

Give a cat or kitten your heart, and they will give you the World in return.
They have... The spirit of a lion, the body of an acrobat, the wisdom of a king, and the heart of a friend.

The Domestic Cat

The domestic Cat is a contradiction. No animal has developed such an intimate relationship with humans, while at the same time demanding and getting such independence of movement and action. - Desmond Morris

There's a little angel and a little devil in every kitten. The good always comes with the bad! In turn give a kitten your heart, they will give you the world in return. Oh. so true!

Need Help

Anyone have any good ideas for getting a cat to eat? Need your help. Thanks.

Loving Pets

For all my babies I do not consider them as pets. We have an intimate relationship, they demand their space.
You would do anything you can to insure your cats are healthy. Regardless what we do there are times when Mother Nature has other ideas. They get sick we take our them to the Vet. Generally the problem is small, but there are rare moments when it is not.
You love them, care for them the best you can or know how. In the end they are taken from you, because there is a mass growing inside them you can not remove. If it could be removed by reaching in to get hold of it you would.
It is difficult to watch your baby slowly slipping away. You know they do not feel well, your hands are tied, you are helpless, there is nothing that can be done. All they want is to be held and loved.
When the time comes what will I do, you ask yourself. Please let their passing be easy. Just let them drift off to sleep. When that day arrives they will be in God's hands! Yes you will have lost your precious baby. Stop to remember all of those happy memories.

A Kittens Trust

A kitten learns to trust you because they themself are a trustworthy and faithful friend.

Some kittens take longer to trust. It is a matter of taking baby steps until the day comes when they fully trust you. :)

Plot

While you're eating dinner, a kitten is under the table trying to plot the best way to get onto your lap and maybe to share in your meal. If they look cute enough you'll weaken and give up some of your dinner. Success!

Adventure

A kitten does not need to go outside to find adventure. Empty boxes, a paper bag, a piece of string, or pellets from the litter box. Yes they can have endless fun with any of these items. My least favorite is the pellets from the litter box. I never know where Maya will park one, under the rugs is her usual spot. She will nose her way under the rugs and have a good ole time. Every day coming home from work I expect to see the kitchen rugs all messed up or the rug in front of the fireplace. I dare not walk around the house without slippers.

One night several weeks ago Maya discovered the fun of playing with a pellet on the hall floor, which has no carpet. Trying to fall asleep was next to impossible. Finally she grew tired of the game and I fell asleep

In the mornings she has this new thing. When she hears the alarm go off or me moving around, in she comes. First I feel a light touch from one paw, then two, three and four. There the cute little fart is walking on me coming up for a pet, a rub and scratch behind the ears. As soon as I am moving to get up she is gone. I must say she is getting better and not running from me in the rest of the house. There is never a dull moment any longer. :)

My Baby Fur Ball

She is such a cute and funny baby. She hears the alarm go off in the morning knowing it is time to began walking on me for a pet or two. The purring is getting louder the more she I rub her ears, scratch her little head in general pet her. When I get out of bed, feet hit the floor and I walk into the hall. Ms. Mess sees me and runs away. Why I ask myself. Go figure that one out. I must say she is getting better at that. Food is the pull.

She plays, jumps, chases and naturally gets into things. Ms. Maya is a quick study. In no time she has gotten the meaning of the word "no" and knows the sound of fingers snapping. She sometimes responds to a pointed finger. With a water bottle my words sink in faster. One smart cookie! I do have to laugh at her, more so when she is in one of her crazy modes. :) :)

Sunshine in fur form

A kitten is the sunshine in your life, the silver lining in the cloud, and the rainbow after a storm.

They are good for a laugh or two. After a hard day at work go home watch you cat(s) or kitten(s). Sometimes they are better then TV.

Less Stress

Keeping your Cats healthy means less stress on them and you the owner. There are times when no matter what you do nothing worked.

Kittens

Kittens never take things too seriously--they just get up, move on, and shift their attention to something new.

I watch this first hand every day with Maya. She is one of Goldies kittens I brought in about a month ago. She is a funny little thing. When she is playing around the other cats jumping and spinning in mid-air. I have to laugh.

Pet CPR

Pet CPR! Sounds like something that is good to know. We do it on humans why not our beloved pets? The American Red Cross may conduct CPR classes for cat and dog owners, or anyone interested in saving the lives of animals.

Ms. Maya

Finally was able to let Maya out of the bathroom after her first visit to the Vet. She checked out ok, that was Sat Aug 14. Now that she is out among the other cats she runs when I come close, so I leave her alone. Sooner or later she will come around and stop running from me. She is getting closer, but I'll wait when I feel the time is right or Maya will.
I have to laugh at her and some of the goofy things she does. One of my male cats plays with her a bit.
She will lay out on the large foot rest with one leg hanging over the edge waiting to slap at someone walking by.
Kittens are better then TV!

The Continuing Story of the Kitties

Seems something took one of the baby kitties, he has been missing for 2 weeks. Between Goldie and myself we are doing our best to keep the kittens safe. Last Thursday I was able to catch one, a cute little girl. I have named her Maya. She purrs up a storm when I comb her.

Sad To Say

For the past few days I have not seen one of the baby kitties. There has been a coon that has evaded the trap. Now I am wondering if it had anything to do with my baby kitty missing. He is always out when Goldie is around and generally the first to pop his head up over the edge of the porch and then hopping onto the porch. This has not been the case lately. I know Goldie misses him and so do I. In fact a few tears fell today as I was looking out the window and wondering where he could be.

Kitties Growing Up

My baby kitties are growing up. Mom Goldie keeps them off the porch and under my riding mower during the day, so is not easy to see them. When they are on the front porch or jumping on something that moves they are still a joy to watch. I have to laugh at some of the funny things kitties do while playing.

This Sunday, July 25, I was able to save another kitty, about 6 months old. Instead of using the trap I snagged it using a fishing scoop net. It was a cute one. The body and legs are solid white, blue eyes. Ears and tail are a light orange and a splash of oramge on it's nose. If anyone would love to give this baby a home you'll find it at The Warren County Humane Society building in VA.

Noisy Front Door

I wish my front door did not make so much noise. Every time I open it the kitties run for cover. I so want to take some pictures of them. Like today when I looked out the kitchen window. There all the kittens were piled on top of Goldie (Mom). They were out like little lights so content next to Mom. They are growing up. I want to catch them and find homes before they are older and start roaming, especially the males.

I still get a kick watching them play with each other. When they stand up on their back legs with the front legs and paws out and they pounce, roll and tumble. :) They are so cute.

Kittens love telling fish stories. Tales about the goldfish that got away, even though it only swims in a small bowl.

Baby Kitty Update

Watching these 4 furry babies brings smiles to my face. They are sooooo cute. There are 2, now and then, that may stay close by when I walk onto the front porch.
Most folks would probably laugh at me if I say the front porch is set up as a play area for the babies. It is! I figure by giving them some toys on strings hanging from the porch railing will get them use to cat toys. There are two area rugs, a padded wicker cat bed, and a fake fur lined play tub. Do you think that is enough? I have thought of putting more stuff out for them, do not know what that may be right now. I know a litter box. Sounds like a good idea to me. If anyone out there can come with ideas let me know.
If I could take some pics of these babies I'd put them on FaceBook. They run every time the door opens. Think I'd run too. as noisy as it is.

Pet Food Recalls

Why are so many pet food companies recalling the food? What is in their product? How much is harming cats and dogs? Do you know what you are feeding your pet? Become a label reader and find out!

You'll find out as I have what is really dumped into pet food. Things that are better destroyed then turned into food for our pets.

Baby Kittens

Discovered this afternoon there are 4 fluffy kittens living under my shed with mommy cat. Mommy cat is a small Orange tabby I have been calling Goldie. She has been hanging around since the winter, she is barely a year old. I believe this is her first litter.

I was looking out the storm door today and up pops a cute furry head. I looked again there was another wondering where they came from. I began watching these two babies bounce, roll and chase each other. I smiled at them as they played. I began looking around another little head popped up and another. These tiny fur balls were running and bouncing all over the front porch. I simply could not get over the fact that my Goldie had 4 kittens. She was keeping a watchful eye on them.

Watching them grow will be lots of fun. Everything new that looks interesting they no doubt will have to chase. Cats and kittens are a joy to watch.

Cats need a specific diet plan

Two things you must know if you want your cat to live.

1. Commerical cat food can not only cause kidney disease symptoms, but can make your cat worse and eventually kill your sweet kitty.

2. Commerical cat food is nothing more than leftover parts from slaughter houses. It's not the food we eat (which is safely regulated by the FDA).

When cows are slaughtered, in a slaughter house, many parts from cows can not legally be sold to us because they are not safe for humans.

But why let all of that go to waste? There's money to be made. It can not be legally be sold to humans, it CAN legally be sold to the cat food industry!!

The legal definition for this JUNK is called "meat-by-products". One of my earlier blogs I addressed meat-by-products.

Instead of letting all this leftover junk go to waste, at the end of the day all these harmful animal parts...are thrown into a barrel and left to sit until it is ready to be shipped to cat food manufacturers.

Then it is mixed up and broken down into "processed meat" that is later put on the shelves of food stores and sold as good ole faashioned cat food.

Some of the nasty stuff could include but not limited to aborted fetuses (from cows), urine, feces, infected livers, tumors, infected kidneys, infected hearts, limbs and the list goes on.

Is it any wonder why our cats are not healthy and getting sick where they need to be taken to the vet, or contracting some disease.

Just writing this article makes me ill to think I use to feed my own cats that trash. Want your cat to live a longer healthy life?? Go to www.kittycatorganics.com to discover what I found.

Cats Ae Trainable-no joke

Most people may feel a cat can not be trained, because of their attitudes.
Cats can be silly, funny and just a lot of fun. Reptition and patience are keys to training your cat. Just figure out what your cat will work for. this is a start. Decide what you want to teach your cat and keep the sessions short, no more than 5 minutes and varied. Cats get bored easily. Go for it and see what fun and interesting things you can teach your cat. Make a game of it.

Meat-By-Product in Pet Food

This information came from my research anyone can find online.

Meat by-products : are ground and cleaned parts of slaughtered animals, not including meat. These include undeveloped eggs, feet, necks, heads, (and a small amount of feathers in the case of chicken meat), lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, blood, bone, and stomach and intestines freed of their contents. It does not include hair, horns, teeth, or hooves. The definition for meat by-products by the Association of American Feed Control Officials is:

The non-rendered, clean parts, other than meat, derived from slaughtered mammals. It includes, but is not limited to, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, livers, blood, bone, partially defatted low temperature fatty tissue, and stomachs and intestines freed of their contents. It does not include hair, horns, teeth and hoofs. It shall be suitable for use in animal food. If it bears name descriptive of its kind, it must correspond thereto.

These meat-by-products are commonly found in lower-grade pet foods and even many larger brand names.

A Cats Purr

The mystery of the cats purr! Why do they purr? Yes cats purr when they are happy, but also when they are stressed. The sound a cat makes is caused by vibrating muscles around the larynx. Also the purr originates from stimulation of a specific area in their brain. For those with cats we know they can purr for hours. Purring in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep can be frustrating, but love them. They are happy to be near you.
Did you know the purr is the first sound a newborn kitten makes? Have you ever seen your adult cat drool as they purr? The combination of drooling, purring, and paw kneading in an adult cat may indicate a moment of regression to feeding time as a kitten.
Without all those cute purring fur-faces life would be boring! Let us keep them happy and healthy. Mine give me such joy!

Training

For most cats, learning to come when summoned is fairly simple. The benefits of this skill are huge, and the costs of acquiring it are tiny. It may very well be the essential trick for all cats

Pick a food treat that kitty loves.

Each time you give her this treat, first call her in a unique way that you only use for this purpose, then give her the treat as soon as she comes over. Always issue this call when you give her the designated treat. Dont use this call for anything else

In addition, when she comes to you in response to being called, give her praise and some petting, if she likes being petted.

Practice this once a week, or more often.

A lifetime of happiness

Would it not be great if your cat could live beyond 15 or 16 years. They do have the potential to live 27 to 30 years. That is provided they are given a good organic diet full of vitamins and minerals. Just think of all the happy times ahead.
